New to West Point/Cub Scouting???

We're glad you've chosen to join Pack 23 for our 2006/07 Scouting Year.  Cub Scouting is a home-and neighborhood-centered program designed to support family life.  Cub Scouts are first through fifth grade boys, and many already know each other through school and sports.  Cub Scouting furthers those relationships, and uses several methods to focus on specific goals. This paper gives a brief description of the Cub Scouting program.

Volunteers This program is run by volunteers.  We need you, even if you don't have prior experience to help wherever you can!!

Meetings and Information

  • Many of the activities happen right in the den and pack.  The most important are the weekly den meetings and the monthly pack meetings.
  • Please remember that Cub Scouting is a family activity and the Den meetings and the Pack meetings are a great place for family involvement.  It takes everyone to make a strong Pack with exciting activities.  Den Leaders are responsible for setting up the overall program for the year, and scheduling the events; but other den parents can host the den meetings at their houses, provide snacks, or take care of arrangements, supplies etc.  Den Leaders would welcome the parents’ help to make their job easier and increase the boys’ enjoyment.   It also brings a great deal of pride to your son to have you play an active role in his activity.
  • As a Pack, we strive to keep our families informed of upcoming activities at the pack, district and council level.  We maintain a website and provide handouts at the den meetings.  Our Scout Hut is also a good source for current information.  We believe each family should have every opportunity to know about the Pack’s events and encourage them to read the provided material.

Den Meetings

  • When:  Are normally bi-weekly (Den Leaders will give specifics)
  • Where:  Each Den meets at different locations (Den Leaders will give specifics)
  • Why:  The boys will work on meeting their rank’s achievements and work on elective activities.  All the achievements cannot be accomplished at the Den meetings.  Some of the achievements will need to be completed at home and require family involvement; may be covered in your son’s daily school lessons; or can be completed at other Scouting events.  Please review the requirements in your son’s handbook and help complete the steps needed for his rank.
  • Who:  The Den Leader is responsible for their meeting and materials.  Parents are encouraged to volunteer their help with the den meetings.

Pack Meetings

  • When: Usually 7:00-8:00 PM on the 4th Friday of each month.
  • Where: West Point Elementary School cafeteria
  • Why: We recognize our Scouts’ achievements, hand out awards, and provide a showcase for the boys’ talents through skits, songs, and crafts.
  • Who:  The Cubmaster is responsible for hosting this meeting and will encourage the boys’ leaders and families to participate at all levels.
